Toy manufacturer Ganz USA LLC of Marietta, Georgia recently announced a recall of three different styles of its “Grumpy Cat” stuffed toys. According to the recall notice posted on the website of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the eyes on the stuffed animals may come off, creating a choking hazard for young children.
About 8,200 of the affected Grumpy Cat toys were sold nationwide and are currently in the hands of consumers. The stuffed toys were sold at gift shops and toy stores between December 2013 and January 2014. The recall affects the Grumpy Cat toys that come in a lying and sitting position, as well as the Grumpy Cat stuffed key clip.
The recalled toys belong to batch numbers 86754 and 224861. The batch number for each toy can be found in the lower right-hand corner of the toy’s sewn-in label. The three models affected by the recall are HGC12974 (laying cat), HGC12982 (sitting cat), and HGC12983 (key clip).
So far, the company has received six reports in which the eyes came off the Grumpy Cat toys. No injuries have yet been reported, however.
