Anyone can doff a cowboy hat, wear boots, eat barbecue, and claim to call him or herself a Texan. But being a Texan isn’t all about appearances; it’s about a way of life and a particular state of mind one can only get from living in Texas for many years.
A true Texan should be able to distinguish between a wannabe and a fellow native of the Lone Star State by looking out for the following signs:
- Texans get pretty excited when it rains, which is understandable considering Texas is one of the hottest and driest states in the US.
- During winter, Texans get sick of the “frigid” 40 degree days and long for summer. When summer comes around, they start missing winter once the temperatures start reaching 100 degrees and above.
- Only Texans will know the joy of seeing a glowing beaver sign while out on the road.
- If you want a soda, you ask for a coke. But it’s not exactly a Coke you want. However, you always address Dr Pepper by its name and never call it a coke. And you always avoid Mr. Pibb.
- As far as Texans are concerned, there’s no point in keeping track of distance since Texas is such an expansive, seemingly endless land. It’s more sensible to keep track of time when it comes to trips and such.
- You ever drink the juice out of a Best Maid or Del Dixie pickle jar? If so, then you might just be a Texan.
- Fact: Food that is shaped like Texas just tastes better. There doesn’t need to be an explanation behind it. Just accept it.
- When people from other parts of the country start complaining about the “heat wave” they’re experiencing, you tell them to suck it up.
- If you’ve ever lost a cooler of beer or even your top while floating along the Comal river, then it is highly likely that Texas is in your blood.
- No matter where you want to go or what you want to do, Texas always calls back to you, ‘cause Texas is in your soul.
