January is National Birth Defects Prevention Month and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has increased its efforts to raise awareness among women, families, and medical professionals about the risks and causes of birth defects and malformations.  While the causes of many types of birth defects are still unknown, in some cases, genetics, lifestyle, and medication can have a major impact on a baby’s development in the womb.

Anti-depressants, in particular, have been found to cause significant risks of birth defects and lowered IQs when taken by women during pregnancy.

OxyElite Pro Recalled for Connection to Liver Illness Outbreak

Waco Product LiabilityDallas-based dietary supplement manufacturer USPlabs, LLC recently announced that it is recalling its OxyElite Pro sports supplements due to a confirmed link to an outbreak of liver illnesses and one death.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) originally warned the manufacturer that the OxyElite Pro and Versa-1 supplements were contaminated because the supplements contained aegeline, an ingredient that did not have a history of use or safety in the U.S. USPlabs claimed the dietary ingredient was safe but would be discontinued and destroyed due to negative publicity.
