Five years after a fatal collision with a big rig truck that took the lives of AnnaLeah and Mary Karth, their family members are advocating for tougher standards for the rear impact guards on trucks. The family points to accident test footage proving that better rear guards would reduce the likelihood of fatalities in the event of a collision. The Karth family has helped write legislation that would improve standards and, for the very first time, would require trucks to have side impact guards.
The driver has been charged with a third-degree felony charge of intoxicated assault causing serious bodily injury.

Commentary
Because of their immense size and momentum, big trucks can be extremely dangerous in a collision. One way to help reduce the risk of a truck taking a life in a collision is to always make sure that the truck and the driver of the truck is in full compliance with all safety measures.
