Brown Trial Firm, PLLC is proud to be involved with charitable organizations outside of the courtroom. One of those organizations is the Molly Martinsen Foundation.
From October 24th through the 31st, the Build-A-Bear store at the Richland Mall in Waco will be hosting an event in association with the Molly Martinsen Foundation. The goal of this event is simple: lovingly create 500 bears to be donated to Cook Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House. These bears will then be given to brave children who are currently battling serious illness. Last year’s event collected more than 150 bears for children, but this year the Molly Martinsen Foundation and Build-A-Bear are hoping to more than triple that.
The Build-A-Bear event is inspired by Molly Martinsen. Molly was a beautiful, vivacious 10 year-old girl with a huge heart. She loved life, was full of spirit, was funny, and had a smile that could light up a room. She loved her friends, her family, and her faith. She also loved volleyball, and played with a competitive passion.
In 2011, she had just finished 4th grade at Waco Baptist Academy when she was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor. She bravely underwent a grueling surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and months of rehabilitation to regain some of the motor function that she had lost. Despite her courageous battle, her tumor returned. Molly died on May10, 2012. She was only 11 years old.
The idea for this Build-A-Bear event originated with Molly. Molly’s birthday is October 24th. The year that she was battling cancer, everyone was asking Molly what she wanted for her birthday. Molly didn’t want any presents for herself. She wanted her family and friends to give presents that she could take to the other children at Cook Children’s Hospital oncology center where she was getting treatment. So, for her birthday, she took her gifts to the kids at the hospital.
This Build-A-Bear drive serves to keep Molly’s birthday wishes coming true year after year. At Brown Trial Firm, PLLC, we intend to help perpetuate Molly’s beautiful Mark on this world. We hope for a great turnout this year over the course of the week, and are excited to see friends, families, and supporters come together for this wonderful cause. If you would like to donate a bear, visit Build a Bear any day during the week to make the bear and leave it at the donation site. We will pick up the bears and deliver them to Cook Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House before Christmas. If you would like to make a donation and have us build the bear for you, call the law firm or email [email protected]. In addition to making bears, donations can be made directly to the Molly Martinsen Foundation. Simply visit www.mollysmark.org for more information.
